Teacher turns opportunity into business

SYLVIA Mabunda-Mathebula says she is dedicated to uplifting her community by helping women build confidence, gain independence and create real financial opportunity.

The 56-year-old teacher from Waterval outside Louis Trichardt is living proof that powerful impact can begin with a simple opportunity shared at the right time.

Mabunda-Mathebula is a Table Charm distributor whose journey started in an unexpected place, namely a funeral, where someone introduced her to the business opportunity. “What caught my attention was not glamour, but practicality – real, everyday household essentials that families already need. It was not a luxury business. It was a people’s business, for the people, by the people,” she said.

That first step grew into a thriving distributorship that now supports families, builds skills and creates sustainable income in rural Limpopo. Her passion lies in empowering others. One of her proudest moments was watching someone she mentored rise from uncertainty to becoming a distributor. “I see growth. I see financial independence. I see leadership. And I see a community that is stronger because of this opportunity. Seeing someone transform like that reminded me why this work matters.”

Mabunda-Mathebula believes true success is measured not by how far she goes, but by how many people she brings up with her. “Youth unemployment is a big challenge in Limpopo, and I see it every day in my classroom, in my community, and in the homes around me,” she said. “That is why I have made it part of my mission to give young people a real chance through the Table Charm opportunity. When young people join my team, I do not just help them sell. I teach them practical skills they can use for life — how to talk to customers, manage money, stay organised with stock, communicate with confidence, and even lead others. These are life skills, not just business skills.”
