That scratched table, that tired stool, that tray hiding in the corner — don’t throw it out. With just newspaper and glue, you can turn it into a statement piece that looks brand new.
What You’ll Need
- An old table, stool, or tray
- Newspapers (the ones lying around the house work perfectly)
- Wood glue + a little water
- Sandpaper (optional but helpful)
- A paintbrush or sponge
- Clear varnish (for sealing, ±R60–R80 a small tin)
How to Do It
- Clean it up: Wipe the furniture and, if you have sandpaper, give the surface a quick rub so the glue sticks better.
- Mix the glue: Two parts wood glue, one part water. Stir until smooth.
- Tear & stick: Tear your newspaper into pieces. Brush the glue mix on a small area, stick the paper down, then brush glue over the top to seal. Keep overlapping until it’s fully covered.
- Let it dry: Leave overnight if possible.
- Seal it: Once dry, brush on clear varnish to protect the surface. One coat is good, two is even better.
Why It Works
It’s cheap, it’s creative, and it turns something old into something with new soul. Plus, it’s a conversation starter — visitors will ask where you bought it. You’ll smile and say: “Just newspaper and glue, my friend.”
