What a Business Builder Actually Does All Day

People ask what a Business Builder actually does, and most answers make it sound tidier than it is. There is no fixed shift. Some days three messages turn into three sales. Some days ten messages turn into nothing, and the only thing to show for the hour spent on them is a full sent folder and a headache. Here is what one ordinary day actually looks like, the parts that work and the parts that do not.

Before the House Wakes Up

Overnight messages get checked first, and most mornings there are two or three, half of them easy to answer and half of them the kind you reread twice before replying, because getting the tone wrong on a first message can lose a sale before it starts. Somebody asking if the Lunch Box comes in a bigger size gets answered in under a minute. Somebody who went quiet three days ago after saying she would think about it gets left a little longer, because chasing too soon reads as pushy and most people know it.

The School Run, Where Half the Real Selling Happens

Nobody plans to sell anything at the school gate, and it happens there anyway, because that is where an actual conversation about a real problem comes up. Somebody mentions her cupboard will not close properly. It is not a pitch. It is a normal complaint that happens to have an answer sitting in a catalogue at home, and the sale that follows, if it follows at all, started because a problem was real, not because a script was good.

It is not a pitch. It is a normal complaint that happens to have an answer.

Midday, the Part Nobody Sees

This is where the admin lives, and it is the least interesting hour of the day and the one that decides whether the month adds up. Orders get written into MyShop properly rather than remembered. A sale that sits in a notebook and never gets invoiced does not count toward the Growth Challenge, and does not count toward a Power Deal ticket either, no matter how real the money that changed hands was.

This is also when a new Business Builder tends to be working through her starter product, often the Lunch Box 1.5Lt, the Sea Miracle range, or the Herbal Blend Concentrate. R79 bought, R99 sold, R20 kept. That maths does not change however many times it is repeated, and on a slow week it is the number that matters more than any bigger promise, because R20 that actually arrived beats a bigger number that did not.

Half Past Four, When the Second Attempt Happens

Afternoon is when people are home and tired and scrolling, which is either the best or the worst time to post a WhatsApp status depending on what the day has been like. Deliveries also happen now, on foot most weeks, sometimes by taxi when the order is heavy, to whoever paid earlier in the week. Some days this is straightforward. Some days it means standing outside a gate for fifteen minutes because nobody answers, and going home with stock still in the bag.

After Supper, the Fifteen Minutes That Decide Next Week

Once the house is quiet, the two or three people who showed real interest but did not commit get one more message, not a reminder, just a check in. Some weeks this earns nothing. Some weeks this is the exact message that turns a maybe from Tuesday into a yes on Sunday, because the timing that mattered was hers, not the calendar’s.

That is the day, on a fair week. It does not always work. Some weeks the messages go unanswered and the delivery does not land and the month feels like it is not moving at all. The ones who are still doing this in month six are not the ones who had an easier run than that. They kept sending the after supper message on the weeks it felt pointless too.
